Stomach ulcers are sores that develop in the lining of the stomach or duodenum, which is the first part of the small intestine. It can also be known as peptic ulcers, gastric or duodenal ulcers.
It is usually caused by a bacteria called Helicobacter pylori (H.pylori). It is also caused by the long term use of anti-inflammatory medicines such as ibuprofen and aspirin.
Common Symptoms of Stomach Ulcers
Discomfort between meal or during the night
Discomfort when you eat or drink
Bloating, burning or dull pain in your stomach.
Frequent stomach pain that wakes you up at night.
Severe ulcer can lead to blood in your stool or dark stool.
Vomiting blood.
Although, stomach ulcers may not be a funny experience for anyone, especially when the pain is severe, it can actually be remedied with some natural medicines that has been provided by nature.
The following natural remedies can be applied:
1. Colourful Fruits
Many ripe fruits such as apples, blueberries and cherry contains compounds called flavonoids, which are polyphenols. Flavonoids contributes to the rich colour of some fruits.
It has been proven that flavonoids protects the stomach lining from developing ulcers. They do this by increasing stomach mucus, which inhibits the growth of H. pylori. They also aid in easing digestive issues.
2. Unripe Plantain
Research has shown that unripe Plantain which contains flavonoids called leucocyanidin helps to increase the amount of mucus in the stomach. This fruit reduces acidity which reduces ulcer pain.
3. Honey
Honey is a natural sweetener which is mostly used in different parts of the world. A number of studies has shown that honey contains antimicrobial effects which fights against H.pyroli ( a major cause of stomach ulcer). Honey can also be used to treat skin ulcers, burns and wounds.
4. Chamomile Flowers:
Research has shown that extracts from chamomile flower has anti-ulcer property. It also proved that it can prevent stomach ulcers and fasten the healing. Some people also use it to treat minor anxiety, intestinal spasms and inflammation.
5. Garlic:
Garlic which is a very common spice in different parts of the world contains antimicrobial and antibacterial properties, which makes it effective in fighting infections. Studies have shown that garlic is effective in the treatment of ulcer and likewise it prevents the growth of H.pylori.
6. Aloe Vera
Aloe Vera is a regular plant based oil gotten from the leaves of the plant itself. A study proved that Aloe Vera reduced the severity of the ulcers.
7. Siam Weed ( Awolowo leaf)
Siam Weed popularly called Awolowo leaf in Nigeria is one of the most effective natural medicine to treat stomach ulcers. It has antimicrobial and antibiotics properties which makes it very effective in treating ulcer.
In preparing it, you need to get some Awolowo leaves, wash them with water and squeeze the leaves inorder to extract the juice. Add to the juice, two teaspoons of honey. Drink the juice twice daily, in the morning before eating and in the evening. Do this for two weeks and watch out for the testimony.
